This week, grade 11 chemistry students studied limiting reagents through making and eating a banana ice cream sundae. By identifying the least abundant ingredient, they determined the limiting reagents in the chemical formula for the sundae. Students will apply their knowledge of limiting reagent problems in the following classes.
Grade 11 students began their chemical bonding unit with a laboratory experiment. They examined the different properties of ionic and molecular compounds. To categorize each type of compound, students studied physical properties indicative of bond type, including conductivity, solubility, and room temperature state.
