Oedipus and Modern Media

This week, Grade 12 English students began analyzing Sophocles’ Oedipus the King for connections to contemporary media. After investigating how Oedipus has influenced literature, movies, and television, students presented their findings to the class. Topics ranged from The Simpsons to The Great Gatsby.  

Oedipus the King

This week, the Grade 12 English students continued their journey into Oedipus the King, second of the three Theban plays. They brought Sophocles’ words to life with contemporary dramatic readings. As students continue to explore and analyze Oedipus, they will reflect on quintessential themes of human existence such as fate, free will, and the importance of stories.

Pendulum Lab

This week, grade 12 Physics students in Mrs. Patrascu’s class started their first lab of the year by recording the time and period of pendulum swings. From there, they shortened the length of the wire to see how results were affected, learning more about the physics of pendulum motion.

The Voice of a Storyteller

Students in the Grade 12 TOPS English classes have recently begun exploring how stories have a significant impact on their lives. They began the unit by reading an excerpt from Daniel Wallace’s Big Fish – a novel of “mythic proportions”.
