TOPS students work hard, but once in a while, "the play’s the thing!" Dedication to study is a wonderful thing - we believe that. Yet we also know that TOPS students need to occasionally just get out and laugh a little. That’s how "TOPS Night Out" started.
Last year, just over two hundred TOPS students and teachers attended an evening performance of Jersey Boys at the North York Centre for the Performing Arts. For weeks afterwards, students were humming Frankie Valli tunes and reminding people that “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. And while any such performance is an educational experience, that really isn’t why we went. We had worked hard. It was time to put the books away, dress up a little, and just go to the theatre and sing along.

This year, well over three hundred students, teachers, parents and friends will attend a performance of The Toxic Avenger, a wildly funny rock musical that recently opened on the Danforth. True, the show will be an opportunity to examine set design, view a Toronto landmark and critique unique dance moves and story lines. But again, that’s not really why we’re going. With one tough TOPS semester almost behind us, it’s simply time to have a little fun.

That’s something all you grade 8’s out there getting ready for this year’s test on December 5 need to keep in mind. Yes, the TOPS experience includes periods of intense effort. But every once in a while, there’s TOPS Night Out!
See you next year!
