Each year in October, all 4 grades of TOPS students go on an overnight trip to Stratford, towards the end of the Stratford Festival. Over two action-packed days, the students see 3 plays, typically including a Shakespeare adaptation, and they explore the town. A typical day would involve wandering the town with friends, taking lots of photos, and eating out at one of the many restaurants downtown. In addition, the Grade 9 TOPS class gets a behind-the-scenes tour of the Festival Theatre and understands how the plays are brought to life. Over the course of their English class, some grades may refer to and analyze the performances that they watched. The experience is intended to be both educational and fun, and forges lasting memories among the TOPS students.
