This week, grade 9 students began their careers course. After analyzing their own personality types, the students have identified potential careers, set goals, and investigated the kinds of school courses required to build their own, exciting futures!
This week, grade 11 TOPS chemistry students analyzed the three degrees of saturation when a solute is dissolved in a given amount of solvent. Students were delighted to watch the crystal formation after small particles of sodium thiosulfate were added to a supersaturated solution.
Grade 12 AP Physics students have begun their study of electricity and magnetism. Students begin this unit with a lab, which involves analysis of circuits using Kirchoff’s laws. This lab also serves as an introduction to AC circuit analysis and the function of an oscilloscope.
The Stoichiometry unit in the Grade 11 TOPS Chemistry classes finished off with an entertaining assignment. Students were asked to creatively present methods by which fictional unknown elements were discovered. This led to many insightful ideas, and a lot of laughter in the room!
Grade 12 English classes had an opportunity to explore the work of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei with a visit to his “According to What?” exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Ai’s messages of social change through his conceptual art inspired many of our seniors, leaving them with much to ponder over.
Grade 9 Science students received a unique opportunity to dissect a frog earlier this week! Donning aprons, vinyl gloves, and safety goggles, the students explored the organs and organ systems of these amphibians as they leapt into a new unit of science: biology.
