Clubs:

At Marc Garneau, there are a wide variety of clubs, accommodating the interests of nearly everyone, including the Humanity Club, the Drama Club, the Gamers' Club, the Key Club (no, they don’t make keys), the Guitar Club, the Senior and Junior Quiz Leagues teams, the Reach for the Top Team, the Helix Club, the Greenhouse Club, a wide variety of bands like Junior, Senior, and Jazz Bands, and much more. TOPS students are well aware that if a club does not exist to suit their interests, it is entirely possible to create one of their own.

Students in the TOPS program not only excel academically but they are also always involved by participating in the teams, clubs and committees that make up the school's extra-curricular programs. Not only do TOPS students actively contribute to the existing clubs, we often create new ones. An example of this is the Eco Team. The Eco Team was created three years ago by a group of TOPS students who wanted to bring the EcoSchools program to Marc Garneau. Since then, they have participated in city-wide cleanups, eco film festivals, and many Earth Day initiatives, making a big difference to life at Garneau. It continues to grow and evolve under the leadership of its student executives. Another example of TOPS student leadership is Relay for Life. Every two years they organize an overnight fundraiser at the school to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. The 2008 Relay for Life raised over $10,000.

Teams:

Recreational teams as well as highly competitive teams can be found at Marc Garneau. Teams include the varsity football team, the singles and doubles tennis team, two girls basketball teams (junior and senior), girls field hockey, the swim team, three boys basketball teams (bantam, junior and senior), girls, boys and co-ed volleyball teams, soccer teams, girls softball, and even an ultimate frisbee team. Depending on the sport (and the age group), playing on a team can be a large commitment of time (for example, the senior boys basketball team practices frequently at 7:00 AM). However, joining a team leads to a good opportunity to make new friends, get exercise and connect with other students especially with those who aren’t in TOPS.
