A Sea of Stories

The grade 9 English class began writing opinion essays based on Salman Rushdie’s Haroun and the Sea of Stories. In their essays, they dug deeper into the meaning of stories, focusing on the importance of stories that aren’t even true.  

Time for Ilhan

The grade 9 civics class went on a field trip to Hot Docs Cinema, where they watched an inspiring documentary about the life of Ilhan Omar. Afterward, they toured Ontario’s Legislative Building to learn about how legal decisions are made in Ontario.

Checking out Cheek Cells

The grade 9 science class worked with microscopes. After learning about the structure of a cell, they took swabs of their own cheek cells and observed them under a microscope. The students drew diagrams of the cells and observed many characteristics of the cells, such as the effects of the visible bacterium and the size of the cells.

Electoral Regions

A representative from Elections Canada, Zoe Flatman, visited the grade 9 geography class. Guided by the representative, the students compared and contrasted different electoral communities and discussed possible explanations for various statistics such as population density, voter turnout, and average voter age.
