Exploring the Mind

This week, the grade 11 Biology students performed a series of labs at U of T’s Mining Building. The students examined live cells of the hypothalamic and neuroblastoma cell (Neuro-2a) lines under microscopes with 60x magnification from samples that they prepared. Using fluorescence microscopy they were able to identify the location of the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulums of the cells. The trip allowed students to experience hands-on applications of microbiology and use materials typically operated by graduate students.
