TOPS makes its home in Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. One of the most multi-cultural schools in Canada, Marc Garneau provides TOPS students with a rare opportunity: Drawing from over 90 different nationalities, TOPS is in an environment where students will learn more than just math and science from their school, but also about different cultures, customs, and beliefs.
The school’s facilities are impressive, to say the least, giving Marc Garneau C.I. another reason to be proud. The science labs and the computer labs are very resourceful and handy to both students and teachers. The weight room displays numerous machines that are important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and are open to students every day at lunch. In addition, the greenhouse is remarkable, consisting of various plants, while the library is extremely useful and contains an abundant stock of books that students constantly refer to. The autoshop, graphics’ lab and the video labs are also part of the excellent resources allocated for students and teachers. A major addition was completed in 1997, and at the same time the second and third floor areas were completely renovated. In 2016, the school’s cafeteria’s flooring was re-done, the gymnasium installed new bleachers and padding, and the library installed a new set of desktop computers. Although our school opened in 1973, our facilities are truly modern.
There are also dozens of clubs at the school, and each semester new ones are created by avid students. There are numerous sports teams, and this year our football team made it to the city finals. Each year, there are several special events such as the International Day cultural event, various drama performances, and school dances. We are also proud of our school spirit days such as Twin Day, and our Holiday Food & Toy Drive. These events help bind the whole school community together. A TOPS student is fully integrated into the cultural mosaic that makes up Marc Garneau’s larger family. This and many other special traits make Marc Garneau C.I. a safe, clean, and friendly school that TOPS is proud to call its home since 1987.
